Surface extensometer

Surface extensometers are used to measure displacements on surfaces over distances of 1 to several metres. The sensors, which are encapsulated in a water pressure-tight stainless steel housing, are usually linear potentiometers with a measuring range of 50, 100 or 250 mm and a measuring accuracy of +/-0.02 mm.

For longer distances (base lengths), the sensors and the measuring rod are protected in a telescopic tube. The measurement is done either manually with a portable measuring device or automatically with a data logger.
